A zsarnok szíve, avagy Boccaccio Magyarországon

This closed in film is a dreadful Jancso let-down after his great earlier films such as ' The Red and the White ' but given the chance to see it I saw a few elements that recalled his better days. The story for what it is is a tepid version of a Hamlet-like prince who returns to his country to find his mother married to inevitably the wrong man. Made no doubt ( my opinion ) for an early 1980's semi-erotica market it has lots of totally nude women, bits of back stabbing violence and a conclusion that in no way was satisfying for anyone with half a brain. Visually it only once shows the Hungarian plains with its eternal soldiers in the distance and those brief few moments made me give this film a 3. I will not name the actors as all of them ' acted ' badly up to the hilt, including one actor who worked with Pasolini. Art house failure for the jaded.
