I recently watched the Polish film 🇵🇱 I Like Bats (1985) on Shudder. The storyline follows a female vampire who works in a small Polish town. During the day, she works in a small shop, and at night, she dresses as a prostitute to find her food, which isn't hard to come by. She wishes to become human, sees a psychiatrist, and looks for ways to cope with her nature. One night, after encountering a group of strange people, she may find the breakthrough she's looking for.
This film is directed by Grzegorz Warchol (Dziki) and stars Katarzyna Walter (Out of Reach), Marek Barbasiewicz (Summer Love), Malgorzata Lorentowicz (Wesele) and Jonasz Kofta.
This movie makes you ask yourself a serious question: could you fall in love with a vampire? The premise is unique, and this is more of a drama with a few horror elements. The vampire scenes are essentially seduction sequences followed by a bite and cutaway. There are some gorgeous ladies in this film, and the expected nudity from a foreign vampire picture of this era. There is a great explosion, but other than that, it's a slow burn to a fun conclusion and a worthwhile spin on an unexpected love story.
In conclusion, I Like Bats is unique and artistic but isn't for everyone. I would score this a 6/10 and recommend it only to those looking for something different.
