In the suburb of Rio de Janeiro, the virgin student Ritinha (Maria do Rosário) marries the morally conservative low middle class tacky car dealer Mário (Ivan Setta), but a couple of months later she becomes very disappointed and bored with their sexual life. She has one night stand with the stupid Portuguese baker Marques, who has a crush on her, and a friend of Marques takes pictures of them having sex in his cottage. When Rita meets the black artist Saul (Haroldo de Oliveira) in Pedra de Guaratiba, they become lovers, and Marques completely jealous with the situation discloses the pictures to Mário, tearing his predictable world down.
"As Aventuras Amorosas de Um Padeiro" is a "pornochanchada" (a Brazilian genre of erotic comedy) with acting and dialogs so awful that become funny. The lead character, Ritinha, is performed by the ham actress Maria do Rosário, and her lines are so stupid and her performance so ridiculous that it is impossible not laughing. There is a tough criticism to the conservative middle class, through the character of Mario. The Portuguese Marques is the symbol of the ignorant immigrant exploiter that speaks a few words in English and entitles himself of European. It is difficult to understand how this flick could have been awarded as indicated in IMDb. The movie also plays with the religion in Brazil, beginning with a conservative Catholic wedding and ending in "macumba"(a kind of voodoo). My vote is four.
Title (Brazil): "As Aventuras Amorosas de um Padeiro" ("The Loveless Adventures of a Baker")
