Although the story was based in Somerset, the house used for the exterior scenes shot, was in Cheshire. This was to get a house that fit the time scales shown through the story line and close enough to Manchester, where the interiors for the house were filmed in a warehouse studio.

Strangely unsatisfying

A mini-series utilising a great ensemble cast, a script that does the talent proud and set in the lush countryside of Somerset,it's hard to fault this one. The first episode is filled with emotion and the anguish exhibited by the talented cast is easily believable - but the pace falters in the second half and leaves one feeling strangely unsatisfied.
