Lenny Henry in Pieces

It may had won the Golden Rose of Montreux and marked Lenny's return to stand up comedy on television. Unfortunately neither the stand up or sketches were as funny as Lenny's shows in the 1980s.

Lenny Henry in Pieces introduced some new characters, notable examples being Donovan Bogarde, a randy man who is attracted to and pursues Mrs Johnson and speaks in sexual innuendos. He might had been the only highlight in the new characters.

Weekend Dad is a man called Clive, who only gets to see his son on the weekend and is still bitter towards his estranged wife.

Big Tramp is a homeless man who tries to get money out of people.

Gloria is a petrol station cashier who spends her time reading books and gets annoyed when customers show up.

There sketches were bookended with stand up from Lenny with a newer approach in his comedy which really did not work out.

Maybe the move into serious acting affected his comedy or just the writing was poor but viewers quickly lost interest.
