"Holding Your Breath" has a nice visual style to it that is very unique. It looks almost like the film makers too Asian shadow puppets and transformed this idea to a Western palate and it makes a big impression. What also makes an impression is that at times there is a 3-dimensional quality about the backgrounds that can't help but impress. It's funny, but this film reminded me of a lower quality version of "The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello"--one of the most amazing shorts I've seen in the last few years. And, as it turns out, "Jasper Morello" was made by the same people--only later, after they'd mastered their craft and further refined the process.
The only reason I didn't score this film higher is that it is so visually captivating but the story itself seemed secondary--if even that. In fact, almost as soon as the animated film was complete, I was wondering what the whole story was about anyway! However, considering the overall effort and what this led to, this really isn't that big a deal and the film is a nice artistic work.
