Chatô: O Rei do Brasil

The film's release went to a long process that started in 1994, with Guilherme Fontes acquiring the rights of Fernando Morais' book, then production started in 1995, later coming to a halt in 1999. During the long period, the director and his production company were ceaselessly investigated and prosecuted due to his improper use of funds, without delivering a filmed project and misuse of the budget provided by the Ministry for the Culture. Fontes was sentenced to 3 years in prison, later turned into the same amount of time doing community service - he appealed to that sentence. And in several occasions, the director and his company were condemned to return the money used in the film (back in 1995, the sum totaled R$8.000.000; by the time of the most recent trial in 2014, it was corrected to R$66.000.000 plus another R$5.000.000 concerning irregularities with the director's company). Once again, he appealed the decision. After many controversies, the movie was finally released in 2015.
