Jeff Buckley was one of the most amazing musicians of all time. Although he is by no means a household name and is not understood by many music fans, those who love him do so intensely. Buckley released only one CD in his short lifetime, but some consider Grace to be one of the best releases of the 1990s. With many posthumous records to his credit and a growing fan-base, it is difficult to quench the thirst for more from this genius. This rare documentary is certainly some fuel for the blazing fire that Buckley ignited.
The film is short, so it does not give a complete perception of Buckley the way a book would. It does, however, do well to put forth the conflicting ideas of the man by the people who knew him best. There are interviews here with Merry Cyr, a friend and photographer to Buckley; Michael Tighe, Buckley's guitarist; Mary Guibert, Buckley's mother; and others. There are several film clips, some that have been used in press kits and other Jeff related memorabilia and some rare ones like Cyr's home movies. Alongside Buckley's own music, tribute songs like one from Duncan Shiek and on of his father Tim Buckley's performances illuminate the film.
This documentary was made in the Netherlands, but it is in English. There are Dutch subtitles, however. It is rather rare, but it is available on Google Video.
