Nürnberg und seine Lehre

The official movie made about the Nuremberg Trials never had an official release in the United States, any more than Billy Wilder's Die Todesmühlen. Was it some lingering memory of Senator Theodore Bilbo and the House Unamerican Activities Committee, passing the War, looking for "pre-mature anti-Fascists"? You know, the sort of people who were against the people who did the things the Nuremberg defendants did? Was it the concerns of Hays Office? They were in charge of making sure that American morality was upheld in the movies, after all. Images out of Hieronymus Bosch, of human beings reduced to literal skin and bones, of their corpses piled atop each other, of their golden weddings, and the alloy from their fillings stuck in a bank for the the enrichment of the people who ordered this.

I'm not a believer of many conspiracy theories. But I think the truth is that people in charge took a look at Stuart Shulberg's film, thought about what people would think about their inaction, and rise up and hang them. And quite rightly, too.
