When casting for Downcast (2011), writer/director Chris Jayawardena contacted Andrew Wakefield after having met him on another production and offered him the role of "Dr. Decker", a minor character in the feature who was an underground doctor for criminals and outcasts on the fringes of the law. Inspired by the concept, Andrew wrote a short screenplay about how he thought Decker would have come to make the decision to throw away his old position and seek his own brand of moral medicine. Jayawardena cast him for Downcast and asked to direct and produce the short script, as part of Downcast's timeline.
