Preparing for a camping trip, a group of friends decide to visit the local cabin in the woods owned by a friend out in the wilderness for a weekend of partying, but when they start disappearing find the area crashed by a race of extraterrestrial vampires looking to feed on humans.
Overall, this one wasn't all that bad. Among the better features here is the generally decent setup to get all the storylines going and feature all the characters out into the woods. The early setup involving the friends coming together to party with their supplies and travel out into the woods provides the chance to get to know the dynamic between everyone is a fun way to get this going. Alongside this are the exploits of the aliens' craft in the area as a meteorite offering a neat explanation to provide its presence in the area for a fine storyline. As well, there are also the somewhat goofy and cheesy creature attacks. A fun encounter at the beginning where the vampires attack the hiking couple in the tent comes off rather nicely, much like the later ambushes on the helpful hikers that are pretty cheesy. That sets up the finale where the surprise attacks on the stragglers leaving the house to hike in the woods setting up the cheesy enough brawls and encounters around the cabin while putting more alien screentime and gore into the mix. These end up being the good points present here although there are some drawbacks here. What really holds this back the most is the dragging pace which holds the attacks to a bare minimum of encounters. This one has way too much padding here featuring scenes solely designed to pad out the running time with lame montage smoking weed scenes, eternal travelog scenes of the group driving or hiking through the woods, or long-winded dance parties. As these scenes hold up the action to brief sports, it causes an obviously enhanced and unbalanced running time due to the padding featured. The other issue here comes from the aforementioned cheese which makes for an obvious series of low-budget setbacks. There's never any doubt about the rubber masks and Halloween costumes used for the aliens which makes them look somewhat goofy, much like the rest of the gore, prosthetics that give themselves away. Combined with the presentation of this one obviously taking place in cheap locales with the guerilla-style presentation, these all manage to bring this one down.
Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Nudity, and drug use.
