It is a bit long (which is why I took off a couple stars), but I feel like that's kind of the point. Because the film deals with trauma and anxiety - which often feels like the slow tightening of a noose - the slow burn of the film unraveling created for me a tightening of my stomach that got tighter and tighter until the end. So that when "the monster" did make an appearance, I only had to see a little bit for it to be terrifying. That my friends, is good directing! Also, the movie is about intergenerational trauma and suicide which is an important topic and I also liked the family relationships in it - especially the middle and younger brothers. I think when a family has intergenerational trauma, it truly is our relationships with each other that either sink us or free us. And it's nice to see two males have a positive relationship with each other - we don't see much of that these days and it is refreshing. All this and also, the movie is beautifully shot and lots of great acting in it. I can't wait to see what these guys do next!
