With a title like "Ninja Zombies" you know right from the very beginning what you are in for here; low-budget zombie movie. I knew it from the moment I just read the DVD cover title. Let's see what else the movie has to offer:
Unchoreographed sword fights? Check.
Questionable acting? Check.
Ludicrous storyline? Check.
Stereotypical characters? Check.
Horrendous dialogue? Check.
True enough, this movie was exactly that. But it was all so corny and cheesy that it was actually fun to watch. This is a big time low-budget movie, but it has it's heart in the right place.
When you sit down to watch "Ninja Zombies" don't expect this to be a serious movie. It has amateur production written all over it. And don't expect it to be zombies in the likes of Romero's or anything else that has come to shamble across the big screen. But in lieu of this, if you enjoy ultra low-budget zombie comedy flicks and don't mind it looking like something you could make yourself if you have a DV camera at hand, then by all means sit down to check out "Ninja Zombies", because it is a cheesy, campy ninja movie with zombies.
Now, the movie is listed as 'horror' here on IMDb. Horror? Well, I wouldn't exactly call this a horror movie, but hey we all have our own unique ways to determine what is what.
Despite the questionable acting talents from the people performing in this movie, I am sure that they had a great time making it and were thrilled to see it actually make it out to the DVD market.
I loved the way that blood sprayed out whenever the zombies were struck by the 'Hell Sword'. Wait, let's back it up here. Zombies dating back to Feudal Japan still have fresh blood coursing through their veins? Alright then. And I loved the way it always just sprayed on the camera. It never sprayed the people in the adjacent area, nor did it ever spray on the walls, furniture, etc. (I guess the cleaning bill would probably take away too much of the budget!)
Then why did I only rate this movie 3/10? Well as much as I love zombies and ninjas, I just wasn't all that entertained by this movie. Sure it had a few moments, but in overall, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I am sure there is an audience out there for these super low-budget zombie movies, I am just not one of them.
