The English Channel

During the course of the film The Americanization Of Emily Admiral Melvyn Douglas explains how after conquering Europe and then blitzing the United Kingdom by air Hitler could not invade because of the Royal Navy controlling the English Channel. This was the key to the famous Battle of Trafalgar documented here in live action and animation and explained so the lay person like myself could understand it.

This French production focuses on the battle and the events leading up to it on the French Commander Pierre-Charles Villaneuve. A truly tragic figure you will learn, a victim of Emperor Napoleon's indifference to naval affairs as much Admiral Nelson's luck and skill.

Funny thing is that the French did have a plan and Bonaparte had the army for the job. He proves it at Austerlitz later. Fortunately for the British he got distracted.

A very fine documentary.
