Argus manages to do something unexpected in the documentary genre and that is to combine it with elements straight from any classic horror film.
Exceptionally well filmed and edited; Argus builds a slow growing sense of dread and atmosphere as we listen to four individuals present their stories of fear from growing up living in the shadows of the Halifax grain elevator. Combined with haunting cinematography showcasing this impressive structure Matthew Hayes and Pasha Ebrahimi present us with an alternative historical and personal viewpoint on a undeniably menacing building.
My only wish was to see even more. I found myself wanting to see the interior of the elevator or to see archival footage of a mentioned explosion that occurred.
Argus is an exceptionally well crafted film that reminds us how easily fear can over power us in the most unexpected ways.
