"Ghostbusters" games have always been hit or miss on any platform, but this game is one of those hits and I feel this is an under the radar gem and another licensed game I really like; let alone another one of my favorite Ghostbusters games which they finally got right for the NES as well as an under the radar gem.
Yeah, it's true Ghostbusters has had a couple of misses on the NES from that terrible first game to even worse second game which was based on the sequel in 1989 (for the record really liked that sequel). But there was of course another ghostbusters game based on that sequel from a different company "Hal" whom you know for the Kirby games, this didn't come out except overseas and a lot latter in some places mainly "Toys R Us" which sold them. After playing this game they really should have brought this version out instead, would of saved me the trouble of renting out and playing that terrible version.
The graphics are pretty good or decent, really like the lay out of the levels as their maze like, the game pretty much plays out like "Gauntlet" but "Ghostbusters" style, you simply go from point A to B busting ghosts along the way. There are boss fights which are each easy, I wouldn't say their exactly fights more like sticky situations where you simply have to find a way to clean house. I mainly like the designs of each of the maze levels, each of them is all different along with the ghosts whom are also different and have different along the way. And of course they keep true to the movie as the first level takes place in the courtroom and the second and third the old subway station and sewer system.
I really like that the game has a comical nature which keeps true to the spirt of the film franchise as it always had a comical nature. From the ghosts whom are colorfully designed from slime monsters, underground railroad worker ghosts, a runner ghost, silmers, ninjas, floating heads, pink blobs and all others. But I really like how the ghostbuster characters are designed, their sort of cute chibi characters or walking trash cans, which strangely is fitting. They each play the same, so it doesn't matter who you pick, it's really a matter of preference on how you want to dress your ensemble.
Music is decent, it's nothing that really stands out which I'll admit is one weak point of this game but not a bad listen it still fits the game. However, what really powers this game is in the gameplay and it's really good as your simply running and gunning which isn't special but simplicity is how I like it.
The only bad things about the game are that it's a little short and a little easy at least by my standards, but hey the ride may 'be short but a sweet ride, this game is one of those weekend rental games to play for the day.
Overall if you're a fan of the franchise or even looking for any other vintage licensed games especially ones for the NES then "New Ghostbusters 2" is worth tracking down and playing and shows busting ghosts on the NES will make you feel good.
