The film moves right along and even with just an elemental knowledge of Spanish without subtitles (I really don't like subtitles anyway) the story is easily followed. The acting is very good. Very little "over-acting" done, which is a temptation in this kind of film. Arturo de Cordova was a good all around actor but was at his best action/adventure/romance films. I enjoy his Spanish language movies best although he handled English quite well. It's possibly because he was more at ease in his Mexican films. I recommend this version of "The Count of Monte Cristo" highly and if the viewer needs subtitles (no dubbing, brrrr) go with it, to have an enjoyable viewing experience. May even not notice the subtitles after they've "gotten into" the movie.
