6/10
not the worst thing in the world
2 November 2024
Claudia Foster (Elle Macpherson) runs a modeling agency in New York City. Her models live in a co-ed residence. Sonja Stone (Mischa Barton) is her top model returning after a mysterious 6-months absence in which she gave birth. Raina Marinelli (Sara Paxton) is an up-and-coming model who is getting noticed. Chris Andrews (Ben Hollingsworth) is an Iowa farm boy who gets dropped into this world. Successful child model Isaac Taylor (Corbin Bleu) is struggling as he grows older. Marissa Delfina (Ashley Madekwe) is a reckless model embittered by her lack of success.

I remember some of the ridicule as the show got canceled after only two episodes. Ashton Kutcher is the big name behind the scenes. He probably opened a lot of doors for the show, but he's not the best person to sell the show's substance. He contributed to the show's superficial reputation. The title doesn't help. I don't think that I saw it at the time although I doubt that I could remember only two episodes from fifteen years ago.

After watching all five episodes, it's not the worst show in the world. It is just a night-time soap with young hot people. That does sound superficial, but it's not all like that. There are some interesting stories and some bad ones. The melodrama walks the line between realistic and sensationalism. I don't hate it.
