Goyband (aka Falling Star): A Thoroughly Entertaining Movie
9 April 2010
This movie is the perfect vehicle for the extremely talented Adam Pascal (best known for originating roles in Rent and Aida on Broadway) as it allows him to sing, dance, and act. Pascal stars as Bobby Starr, a washed up 1990s boy band star who has been struggling as a solo artist (he can barely even book gigs at a local bowling alley). All of that changes when his biggest fans (Rebekka, played by Amy Davidson, and her friends) get him the break he has been looking for: a chance to perform at the Mazel Hotel. The film is a Jewish musical version of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" with lots of references to "Fiddler on the Roof" thrown in. I enjoyed that this movie was unpredictable, and it is one of the best low budget, independent films I have seen. I would definitely recommend it!
