Primo Levi in Auschwitz- a one man show
29 June 2011
Primo Levi (1919-1987) was an Italian Jewish writer and chemist who was sent to Auschwitz concentration camp. This movie is made in a monologue style, where older Primo Levi goes through his memories in Auschwitz.Primo from 2005 is directed by Richard Wilson. It's based on Levi's masterpiece novel If This Is a Man from 1947.Levi was an excellent author, right now I'm reading his book The Drowned and the Saved, which is about the same topic.Auschwitz never left Primo, and he never left Auschwitz. His death was a presumed suicide, but we can't be sure of that. There is only one actor in this movie, and that actor is Antony Sher.He has to carry the whole show alone, and he does the job very well.Even though you have to watch that one man giving his nightmarish monologue, you never get bored. This can be very haunting to watch from time to time.I really recommend you'd watch this. And also read the book.
