Not bad for a first-timer
19 January 2013
Making a Killing is not a perfect film by all means, though considering that it was the first film for writer and director Ryan L.Driscoll it was more or less what I was expecting. I do think that the film had too many plot twists which complicate things a bit too much, and not all of them are developed enough. The killer I also found hammy and unconvincing. However, Making a Killing is not bad at all. Sometimes there is too much of a TV movie feel in how the film looks but compared to other films made on a similar budget Making a Killing is hardly what you call cheap. The writing has some nice humour and suspense, the story is intriguing on the whole and has tension though could have been even better if there was a few less plot twists and more expansion, and the pacing is efficient. Making a Killing is directed solidly if understandably a little too safe in places, and on the most part the acting is good. So in conclusion, I recommend Making a Killing, for a first-timer it is actually pretty good though could have been even better with a little more polish. 7/10 Bethany Cox
