Reflections with Stuart Gordon: A Director's Perspective (2007)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Fun, eight-minute interview with director Stuart Gordon who talks about his film FROM BEYOND. He starts off talking about how 9/11 caused the horror genre to get a shot and bring it back as something people wanted to see. From here he goes into detail about the success of RE-ANIMATOR and how it led to a three-picture deal. Gordon then talks about the rejected ideas and how Charles Band eventually agreed that FROM BEYOND should be the next movie made. Gordon then goes into details about the casting, the script, the sexuality and the positive reviews that the film got when it was finally released. Fans of the director or FROM BEYOND are going to be entertained by this interview as the director shares a lot of behind-the-scenes stories but also gives one a great idea of his thoughts about the entire process. There are some very funny stories told about his battles with the MPAA and his interesting theory that this film was being punished because RE-ANIMATOR was released unrated.
