An over the top performance from Burt Reynolds highlights this incredibly entertaining Appalachian outing. The movie has strong performances from Reynolds, Keith Carradine, and Pat Hingle. The mountain setting is beautifully photographed, several nude scenes are tastefully done, and the musical score is exceptional. The story of an overprotective and evil mountain man trying to dominate everyone, while steadily losing control, is compelling. "The Hunter's Moon" definitely qualifies as a true "sleeper". Graphic violence is interspersed with moments of "dark humor", but the movie never veers from it's well rooted lovers on the run story line. All I can say is if you can find it, see it! - MERK
