"I'm a business man, not a welfare worker"

Warning: Spoilers
Based on a novel by Dennis Wheatley and George A. Hill it tells of a disgraced army officer Larry Destine going to Istanbul to manage a tobacco concern there but also to appraise the political situation in Turkey, eventually assisting in foiling a revolution by rebels who want to turn Turkey back to the past. Destine is assisted by the mysterious Tania and makes an enemy of Kazdim, 'The Eunuch of Stamboul' as the original title of the novel named him. It is a fairly good thriller with good location photography and excellent sets.

James Mason is good as Destine and is ably supported by the eminently British Valerie Hobson as Tania a Russian noblewoman (!) and Kay Walsh as his current love interest. Frank Vosper is suitably oily and threatening as Kazdim as is Cecil Ramage who plays Prince Ali, secret leader of the revolt. Peter Haddon plays Peter the English silly-ass comic relief amusingly.

It passes the time nicely.
