When the King is told he has a son, word is sent to the three fairies, asking their presence and presents. They show up to offer the usual fairy-tale gifts plus .... he'll be a jitterbug in this late Mintz era Columbia Color Fantasy cartoon.
It's a bizarre and rococo clash of styles, both visual and musical, as the fairies look like kewpie dolls with translucent wings and the baby has a schnozzola that would suit Jimmy Durante; in addition, there are men in doublets and hose and ladies in wimples trucking, while caricatures of Black men roll dice. Sid Marcus directed this and this was in the period when no one seemed to be in charge of the Mintz cartoon factory. Mintz himself was sick and would die soon, leading to further chaos that would not be resolved for another ten years, when Columbia would farm its animation out to UPA.
