Die Rosenzüchterin (2004 TV Short)
6/10
Based on Charlotte Link's Master Piece
28 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hannelore Elsner is great in this role of the grown up girl who survived WW II on Guernsey, one of the beautiful Channel Islands between England and France. Ruth Maria Kubitschek as the selfish old German lady is also fascinating to watch. It has a parallel story line about a German woman coming to Guernsey for financial matters for her abusive husband. The German woman suffers from anxiety attacks and meets Hannelore Elsner's son, a lawyer and an alcoholic.

I would have rated it much higher if the production company would have filmed this on Guernsey instead of South Africa. I was on Guernsey in 2014 and went to Le Variouf and the beaches (all locations mentioned in Charlotte Link's novel are real) and it really bothers me that this from all Charlotte Link films was filmed near Cape Town whereas other Charlotte Link adaptations have been filmed in France (Provence) and in Scarborough, UK. But for unbiased viewers who are not familiar with the novel or with Guernsey it's a gripping TV drama. Enjoy!
