Doom Patrol: Wax Patrol (2020)
Season 2, Episode 9
3/10
Poorly written Episode; Incomplete Season; Disastrous Finale for a wonderful show
7 August 2020
Even though there's more than one show's share of angst for a season in every episode of Doom Patrol, the characters have grown on us and the dark, zany weirdness is like no other show. But...this episode has the team totally wasting their time/angst for absolutely no reason/purpose whatsoever, for people who couldn't care less about them, which is distressing bc through all of their character development, it shows that none of them have learned anything at all. That's the saddest thing so far.

Sure, this was meant to be the penultimate episode of the season, so the fact that it feels like it cuts off mid-show due to a technical failure (you're expecting to hear 'this is a test of the emergency broadcasting system' it's that abrupt) could be attributed to this episode having been always intended as a depressing cliffhanger for the finale, but...no. Even as a standalone episode, it doesn't work, and it fails the series as a whole. Jane/Miranda's memories are the only saving grace of the entire episode. THE ONLY.

UGH. They should not have released this episode at ALL, when they realized their mistakes with the writing in the editing room/cutting process, and THEN the studio should have delayed release of the season until this episode and the finale could be shot.

An unsatisfying disservice to the show, and to the audience.
