Cute fluff

Pleasant, entertaining, not complicated and definitely not to be taken seriously. Set in the 1920s, Lucy Marlow is a pretty nice diversion, gives the film a lot of life, even though the premise doesn't. It had promise - sweet young thing inherits a mob enterprise, much to the dismay of her cop boyfriend (Richard "Dick" Long) and the partner of the deceased boss (Jesse White) who bumped him off on the theory that he would inherit (actually the deceased boss is a prankster who laughed himself to death after being shot and may or may not turn up at the end - hence the title). Marlow, Long and White give it as much zip as they can but the others in the cast - including Frankie Laine - are pretty bland. The plot just never goes where it might have gone. Nevertheless, it's a nice diversion on an otherwise quiet afternoon.
