Ah, Syberia. Such an amazing story, such an amazing game in early 00s. Good memories, one of the very good adventures that have been made! Fast forward in 2017, the third installment, got released. Expectations , were high.
Lets see what happened.
Graphics are ok. Not good, not bad, some shadows are poorly made, the settings are offered, are limited. 60 fps cap is ok for this game. Voice acting decent (but not that good, as it was in the first two, even the same actress, isn't that "excited" about it), music is awesome, as always.
Story is Ok. Nothing extraordinary, but has a good pace. Gets boring some times, but it's fun to keep up with.
That's where the good stuff ends.
I stayed away from this one, due to bad reviews. Oh boy, I was right. I bought it for 3 euros, so I dived into it, just 2 months before the new one comes out - coming in March 18, 2022 (in order to keep up with the story and some things I didn't understand playing the demo of Syberia 4). I played the demo of "Sybera: The world before". It's messed up, performance-wise, but it seems better, in other, more important aspects, such as controls, voice acting, story. I hope the delay is due to optimization (the demo came out October 2020).
If you bought the game, (on sale of course, I don't expect anyone to pay 30 euros for this), and you want a pain in the butt, do play it, like I did.
Abysmal controls, with mouse or keyboard.
Hot spots are a hit&miss. You may try more than two or three times to "hit" the hot spot.
Camera stucks all the time, doesn't follow the character. This is a bug back from 2017. Never fixed.
The cursor disappears for no reason. It makes your life difficult, cos sometimes it disappears when you solve a puzzle.
ESC says it paused the game while it does nothing, dialogues are not skippable.
All of the above, are bugs from 2017, that are never fixed. I expected a patch, but microids ditched the game and proceeds with the new one.
Puzzles are something between extremely easy or silly, to nonsensical.
Endless back& forth in large areas is unbearable, due to bad controls. Some areas are large and when you have to go back, it's annoying.
You need to try very hard to complete it, not because it's difficult, but because it's buggy and microids did NOTHING to fix it.
That's a pitty, because it has its charm and somewhat, keeps the atmosphere of the older games, but falls short to be an enjoyable experience. 5/10.
