Review of Ana

Ana (2020)
6/10
Not good but with nice moments
11 June 2022
A not good documentary with paradoxically very good interviews. While the idea of unveil gradually black artist Ana's as travelling through Latin American countries seemed interesting, and that there are nice stories of other female artists in the continent during the wave of dictatorships, the outcome is not tight enough, the film is a little boring and too long. There are quite bad narrative and artistic decisions: Stella Rabello appears too much, her lines and the ones of Roberta Estrela D'Alva seem very fake. Well, in the end I knew they were indeed fake, what was an even greater disappointment for me. Other possibilities would have been more interesting as strategies to discuss authoritarianism and misogyny in Latin America.
