The biggest problem in this movie is that several things that could be really interesting and exciting to watch unfold are merely skipped over and told through dialogue rather than drama, I imagine that it is for the sake of budget constrictions, but c'mon!, this could be so much more spectacular if they actually delved into the story of "The Devil" (El Diablo), instead of just telling us about it, that's just greedy and cheap, the audience and the actors and crew deserve better, they should have gotten the chance to really showcase their talent in the Robin Hood-esque Action/ Adventure Tale that we could have gotten out of this adaptation (considering the novel and the myths/legends it's based on), if it wasn't for the producer's avarice and lack of vision. However, what is good is good, the camera work is pretty good for the time, the music is quite pretty and sometimes beautiful, though there are moments where it doesn't fit the scene and comes across as ridiculous, but it doesn't get to the point of completely ruining the experience or anything like that. Jorge Negrete is amazing as always, both as dramatic performer, selling every single line/gesture, and as a singer and musician, I mean Holy Cow!, This was a Star!, and the other actor are nothing spectacular, but they're perfectly functional and believable enough, they do their jobs well. Anyway, I just don't think it deserves such a low, barely approving score, I think it should get at least a 7.0, so I'm just trying to contribute to raising that average. I was never bored watching this movie, which I found quite surprising, and I actually found myself feeling a great deal for the characters, especially in the ending.
SPOILER: A good enough Tragic Romance that does entertain and engage, despite it's deficiencies (damn producers and their constant wasting of narrative opportunities).
