Another tarnish on the 1999 original movie...
8 September 2023
Well, just from the cover alone for this 2012 movie "Lake Placid: The Final Chapter", then you know you are in for a cheesy ride. Yet, I still opted to sit down and watch what writer David Reed and director Don Michael Paul had to offer and what they brought to the franchise.

Truth be told, then "Lake Placid: The Final Chapter" was another blemish on the legacy of the 1999 original "Placid Lake" movie. Yeah, the 2012 movie is every bit as questionable and laughable as the 2007 second movie and the 2010 third movie. So you're not in for an evening of Shakespearian cinema here.

Writer David Reed wrote a rather mundane and bland script, one that didn't really bring anything new or exciting to the franchise. I suppose that riding it safe and cashing in on previously used tropes gives some sense of familiarity or security. But at the same time it also makes for a rather bland viewing experience. It felt like it was rather lazy writing that could have been thought up by some high school student making a home video homage to the 1999 movie.

The acting performances in "Lake Placid: The Final Chapter" were fair enough, despite the fact that the actors and actresses virtually had nothing worthwhile to work with in terms of script, dialogue and character gallery. There were a couple of familiar faces on the cast list, with the most noticeable one being Robert Englund, of course, and Yancy Butler as well.

Visually then "Lake Placid: The Final Chapter" is a lousy movie. It looks like the special effects team and CGI team didn't even bother trying. The crocodiles in the movie look abysmal, and it is impossible to take them serious. They are blatantly CGI animated and looks like they escaped from an early 1990s computer game.

This movie from director Don Michael Paul hardly is worth the time of day.

My rating of "Lake Placid: The Final Chapter" lands on a two out of ten stars.
