I prefer this movie to Emir Kusturica's LE TEMPS DES GITANS, also a terrific movie. But his one is easier to understand and follow. The storyline riveting and Gerard Darmon at his best, so convincing in this poignant tale. It is a pure awesome drama that Ken Loach would have loved to make; I am sure of it. And also sure that after this one, you'll never see gypsies the same way. A bit depressing, hard to watch because you know it is real, it is true, so close to real life for those people. But it is also difficult to live besides them, let's be fair. If there is only one film about gypsies to watch, that's this one.
