Veteran Scottish actor Peter Mullan is set to lead single location thriller No Way Off for Altitude, starring opposite Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm’s standout performer, Maria Bakalova.

Downton Abbey director Brian Kelly will make the film, based on a screenplay by Gaby Hill, who recently wrote crime thriller series We Hunt Together. Matthew James Wilkinson will produce for his Stigma Films banner.

The premise sounds, quite frankly, amazing: a single mother and her baby son find themselves trapped on a moving bus drvien by a mask-wearing maniac. Also, it’s set at Christmas.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Akin to movies like The Shallows, Buried, and Crawl, No Way Off finds Bakalova in the role of Laura, “a young mother who waits at a bus stop with her infant son. As /Film's Hannah Shaw-Williams noted while writing about the larger-than-anticipated box office debut for Lively's romantic drama "It Ends with Us," the "Gossip Girl" alum is the rare actor to become "a reliable star of so-called 'chick flicks' i.e. movies overtly marketed towards a female audience" in recent years. We first heard of Tommy Wirkola’s shark film last May when we reported that Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor was in talks to join the then-untitled film.

That film now has a title: Beneath The Storm. Deadline also reports that the film is heading to US cinemas on 1st August next year, courtesy of Sony Pictures. There’s no word on a UK release but we’re sure it’ll show up on a release schedule eventually.

In May, the plot details were kept under wraps and unfortunately that hasn’t changed. All we know is that the film is directed by Wirkola, stars Dynevor and it’ll have sharks. It’s not much to go on, but fans of films like Deep Blue Sea and The Shallows have plenty to get excited about here.

The highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s “It Ends With Us” hits theaters with a star-studded cast.

After initial announcements of Blake Lively playing the 23-year-old Lily Bloom, fans of the book weren’t convinced that Justin Baldoni’s adaptation would live up to the hype. Baldoni, who plays Lily’s love interest, Ryle, also directed and produced the film with his production company Wayfarer.

Both Hoover and Baldoni publicly stated that it was a joint decision to age up the characters, and one they hoped would make the story of domestic violence more universally accessible to a greater range of women.

“When we chose to partner with Sony and turn this into a major motion picture, obviously you need a movie star, [Lively] was one of the first names that was brought up, and all of us got very excited by the idea,” Baldoni told TheWrap about his casting choice for his protagonist.

Romance It Ends With Us opens in 630 cinemas through Sony at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, pitting lead actress Blake Lively against her husband Ryan Reynolds, whose Deadpool & Wolverine has held top spot for two weekends.

It Ends With Us is adapted by Christy Hall from Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel, about a woman whose connection with a neurosurgeon begins to remind her of her parents’ troubled relationship.

Let’s look at Blake...

I consider Blake Lively to be a rather underrated actress. Variety reports that Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions woke up today and apparently chose chaos, as the studios took a look at their big-screen horror offerings to come over the next year and change and shook things up significantly. While the new calendar shift affects quite a few titles, the three main ones that fans will undoubtedly want to keep an eye on include "Five Nights at Freddy's 2," "M3GAN 2.0," and "The Black Phone 2.

I’m reaching my breaking point with shark attack movies that are too distracted by other plotlines to deliver on their promise: shark attacks. Hayley Easton Street’s Something in the Water might be the biggest offender listed, taking roughly thirty minutes until the first shark-related incident, then another fifteen(ish) minutes for the first of frustratingly few substantial shark spottings. Cat Clarke’s screenplay tries to establish poignant storytelling about hate crimes, broken relationships, and debilitating traumas, but in doing so, forgets about the massive shark plastered all over the film’s marketing materials. Street and Clarke aim to elevate shark cinema with emotional throughlines, but sink the entire project with an alarmingly imbalanced approach.

The thriller The Woman in the Yard, which is coming our way from Blumhouse Productions, Universal Pictures, and director Jaume Collet-Serra, was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but it was recently bumped off the Universal release slate entirely to make room for another Blumhouse / Universal collaboration, the Wolf Man reboot directed by Leigh Whannell. (Wolf Man is now scheduled for a January 17 release.) The release date shake-up isn’t slowing down The Woman in the Yard‘s momentum, though. Deadline reports that the project has just added another cast member: Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.

Hornsby joins the previously announced Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till in the cast. Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend is also in there.

Up next from director Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, Orphan, The Shallows) is the Universal & Blumhouse thriller The Woman in the Yard, and the cast is growing this week.

Deadline reports that Russell Hornsby (Fences) has signed on to star in the upcoming thriller, joining the previously announced Danielle Deadwyler (The Harder They Fall).

Okwui Okpokwasili (The Exorcist: Believer) will also star.

The Woman in the Yard, written by Sam Stefanak, is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 10, 2025. At this time, any and all plot details are under wraps. Stay tuned.

Lionsgate and Amazon Studios have announced that a sequel to the 2018 hit mystery-comedy film “A Simple Favor” is coming. The sequel will bring back stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, as well as Paul Feig to direct.

Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till has signed on to star in the thriller The Woman in the Yard, which is coming our way from Blumhouse Productions, Universal Pictures, and director Jaume Collet-Serra. Universal just announced that they have moved the release of the Blumhouse / Atomic Monster horror movie M3GAN 2.0 back from its originally announced release date on January 17, 2025 to a new date in May – but the studio won’t be without a Blumhouse release in January, because now they have The Woman in the Yard scheduled to reach theatres on January 10, 2025.

The director behind horror favorites House of Wax, Orphan, and The Shallows, Jaume Collet-Serra, is set to helm the Universal and Blumhouse thriller The Woman in the Yard. Per Variety, the thriller has also found its star in Danielle Deadwyler.

The Woman in the Yard is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 10, 2025.

Plot details are under wraps, with not even a logline to give any hints about Sam Stefanak‘s screenplay.

“’The Woman in the Yard’ is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler,” producer Jason Blum said in a statement. Variety also notes that Blum has been searching for the right project to work on with Collet-Serra for “over a decade.”

The new thriller also marks a reunion between Collet-Serra and Deadwyler, who collaborated on upcoming action thriller Carry On.

“Black Adam” filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra has been hired by Amazon MGM Studios to direct a movie starring Emily Blunt as pioneering female detective Kate Warne.

Melissa Stack wrote the screenplay from a previous draft by Gustin Nash. The untitled film, described as a “propulsive action thriller,” centers around a real-life Sherlock Holmes-esque character. Kate Warne was the first female detective at the Pinkerton agency and, according to a release, paved the way for future women in law enforcement and forever changed how detective work was done.

Blunt, who will also produce the movie, hasn’t finalized her deal because of the actors strike, but conversations are expected to resume once the guild has a new pact.
