How in the world this movie was ever green lighted? Non-existing story, shallow characters, stereotypes, it's a total, pretentious mess. No link between scenes, no interactions between characters, half of them are useless, just filling up.
It tries so hard to be cute, funny, it's just painful to watch. All the awards it received must result from PC culture and diversity quotas. It's a shame, because there are many, many more talented film makers with Mexican background.
The only thing good in this movie is the music. Other than that, this is plain soap opera with bad acting. The attempts to be funny or romantic, become ruined by the unconvincing acting. It's still worst when it pretends to be sad or attempts to give us 'lessons of life'. Saddly it portrays a stereotyped picture of mexicans that is probably biased. Anyway, if you like latin soap operas go for it. If not, you will find it irritating and a waste of time.
A beautiful movie. A pleasant surprise.
You must see it if you like road trip movies and nice music

This film has everything you can ask for - adventure, comedy and drama- and not a dull moment in between plus 10 original songs! Fun movie you'll want to watch over and over. Based on a true story. I highly recommend it!

A movie about finding your roots, it is a heartfelt comedy and drama at the same time, very entertaining, the lead actors are amazing and have great comedic sync. I read a comment about bad stereotypes of Mexico and was a bit discouraged, but the person writing that review did not get it at all, the movie goes way past the rough surface of Mexico and into how Mexico inspires ...

I'm very impressed by this film. It's stereotypical, as I know - I've lived in Mexico 25 years - but basically Mexican at heart and all the funnier for that. The scene with the street 'Banda' was very funny and typically Mexican although I have also seen the same in Nicaragua. And if the ending doesn't make you cry I will be surprised.
Finally A Movie You Can Watch Over And Over and Still Laugh. The Comedy Is On Point.
I Loved It!!
I laughed to hard, but then it changed and made me cry at the end. I think it was well executed, well directed, beautiful photography and the actors did a great job.
The music is awesome. I want the soundtrack.

I found this movie to be very colorful. It is presented through the eyes of the main character, who runs into Mexico for the first time. I loved that I was laughing and laughing until it got my at the end and made me cry.
Great job!

This movie is funny yet it also has depth. It is about family and finding who you are. A coming of age story with a view of Mexico coming from American eyes. Mexico is beautifully presented, the food, people and the places are shown in a beautiful yet interesting way. Loved the music

I love the way the relationship between the nephew ant the uncle evolves and how the music goes from US to Mexican as they progress down Baja.
Funny, entertaining and deep at the same time. They should make more movies like this.

I traveled down Baja with my father once. It brought so many memories. Made me laugh, and go through many feelings. I love how the relationship between the uncle and the the nephew evolves over the road trip and the music does the same.
I loved it

I really love this film. I can really identify with feeling like a stranger in your own culture. Not only is this really funny, but it is also so poingant and heartfelt in the end. Great writing, awesome performances by the actors, and beautiful direction and cinematography. There's a reason it won tons of awards in the festivals. Bravo.
It is very well written, acted and filmed. Moves at a great pace, keeps you entertained throughout the entire movie, and some of the best scenery of the beautiful Baja peninsula. It will make you laugh, cry and want to watch it all over again. 2 👍👍

I found this film to be very different to what is out now. The acting and situations are very out there, but I think it works very well for what the film is. It is very funny, a bit magical and with an interesting plot that keeps moving. The music is specially good. Thank you for making movies like this.

Funny and great story to see love the special appearance of one of the most talented actress and singer in all Latin America #AngelicaMaria
One of the greatest aspects of this movie is that it shows how strong the bonds of family can be and how those bonds are so important in life. It takes time for a lot of people to realize that and this movie tells a great story of someone who experiences that for the first time in their life. What makes it even more heartfelt is that the main character experiences his first major romantic heartbreak in his youth and has to come to terms with letting go of the past in order to let new things in life come forth and grow into something greater. What I love is how you watch this take place through all its various stages, from reluctance and suffering to embracing and learning. This movie also does a great job in showing the audience to find love in music and art, and I love the way the main character finds his calling in this by the end of the movie. Throughout this journey there is also a LOT of great laughs. The scenes that I found myself laughing the most at were the ones featuring interactions between the main character and his wild uncle. Many, or I should say most, of the scenarios that they find themselves in are just outrageous and unimaginable but they had me laughing a lot. What I appreciate most about this movie is how it actually made me feel something; it reminded me of past heartbreaks and how I overcame them. It reminded me of how beautiful and important it is to your life to grow from the things that have left you sad and hopeless and seek guidance within yourself and your loved ones to find your path and become the person you want to be. Its shows the importance of realizing that we should all value our ability to love ourselves, our family, and to love the things that enrich our lives and bring us happiness.

It's a fun story and adventure. Fun to see places I've been to in Mexico. Brought back memories for me. Funny and touching! One crazy road trip to remember!
Sometimes you come across a movie that you know you're going to watch time and time again. Ruta Madre is one of those films. I loved it from beginning to end, with its hilarious and touching characters, and beautiful Mexican scenery...and the music, oh the music.
I loved it! Ruta Madre was very moving and absolutely amazing! I laughed so much. I cried at the end when I saw Joey Molina. I can't wait to see it again! My daughter and I were quoting parts from the movie on our drive home. I definitely recommend Ruta Madre to everyone. Go see it!
A story full of adventures with the Latin feeling and the power of emotions and sarcastic fun of life, good script, good-told story and the performances of the main characters and the special performance of a Legend in Cinema, TV and Music #angelicamaria - Recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy a comic and exciting drama

This was fun to watch. It has drama, comedy, fantastic acting, and a soundtrack that will make you want to dance, sing, and in the end, cry. Take some time out of your busy schedule, make some popcorn, and sit yourself on the couch and check out this movie.
