Given that you’re coming to this site, there’s a good chance you realize that films are always changing along the way. The scripts are outlined, re-outlined, written, rewritten, and rewritten again. From there, the production process often sees a good number of on-set changes, and in postproduction, there are yet further opportunities to change things along the way.
This is a bit of a longwinded way to lead into the Shazam movie. For practically ever, actor Dwayne Johnson was attached as Black Adam, the arch nemesis/anti-hero best known for clashing with Shazam. Yet despite having the villain cast, we are still short two Shazam actors (one as the young Billy Batson, and one as Shazam himself). In a bit of an ironic twist, however, it was revealed that Black Adam would be getting his own movie, and furthermore, he wouldn’t be present in the Shazam movie.

Billy Batson’s origin story will be one of the more fun and lighthearted additions to the DC Extended Universe, according to writer-director David Sandberg, who’s currently in the midst of Annabelle: Creation‘s press tour. During the prequel’s recent junket, the up-and-coming horror filmmaker spoke with Film Riot about all things Shazam, including his own familiarity with the DC hero, the status of the project and why Black Adam won’t show up anymore.
First, the director offered a firm confirmation that yes, this will be the next Dceu pic to head into production, saying, “There’s a script […] It’s the next DC movie to shoot.” That’s exactly what we’ve been hearing for a while now, so this isn’t terribly surprising. What Sandberg says next, however, is more interesting.
When asked which comics he’s looking to for inspiration, the filmmaker said:
“I’m taking it all in.

Los Angeles, CA, – April 10, 2017 – The digital age has created a space where more people have access to making Hollywood quality films without Hollywood sized budgets. New filmmakers, like Randy Ayres, MD, have taken advantage of lessons from master teachers online and YouTube tutorials from sources like Film Riot, Mzed and Philip Bloom. Ayres applied his Diy learning to create his new independent feature film, Random Karma, an official selection of the 2017 Nice International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema. Ryan Connolly from Film Riot was a major inspiration for Ayres during the production of Random Karma. Through the Film Riot YouTube channel, Connolly shares hundreds of short films, then shows his audience how he pulled them off. Ayres directly applied...

Back in 1991, Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in “Terminator 2: Judgement Day,” the follow-up to the 1984 James Cameron’s sci-fi film. Now flash forward 25 years and the actor’s son, Joseph Baena, is taking after his father and creating his own “Terminator” legacy.
The 18-year-old stars in a two-minute short film that is a shot-by-shot remake of the iconic “T2” scene where the cyborg steals a motorcycle, takes the owner’s rifle and snatches his shades, while “Bad to the Bone” plays in the background.
