I'd feared that the stories were self-contained but although they were, to some extent, there was an overarching storyline both personal and scientific.
I'd thought that the hospital scenes must have been shot in a real facility and I discovered I was right - the Kainuu Keskussairaala in Kajaani was extensively used for many of the parts.
It takes an educated and literate audience to watch a series like this and Finland fits the bill. This wasn't some trashy "House" clone but a serious drama about morality and medical ethics coupled with cutting edge scientific advances. Alongside were human interest angles that meshed with the other themes.
The series needs concentration. This isn't for whiling a few hours away. I'm glad I was able to engage my brain this time.
