The script was originally written in 2011 but thrown away for being "not funny enough." 2 years later and 4 rewrites later, writer Jonathan Spencer found it to finally be ready.
The character Bruno is based off Jonathan Bruno, a friend of the director since he was 13 years old. Jonathan Bruno was known in the 9th for randomly shouting "I demand a snow cone!"
The original draft of the script ended with Spencer and Bruno at "the pier" eating snow cones, but upon location scouting the crew discovered the script was true: No one sells snow cones in the area.
