Just wrapping up its amazing run on HBO, Succession was one of the biggest hits of the network. It revolved around the Roys, a family of beyond-rich business tycoons seeking more power. That led to scores of backstabbing and dark comedy of this truly dysfunctional family trying to work together.

The show was a huge hit, with multiple Emmy Awards for its cast and Best Drama, among other accolades. It’s over now, but thankfully, there are plenty of shows like it for folks who enjoy tales set in the world of high finance and often involving bickering to the point of murdering families. Exclusive: Lbi Entertainment has signed for management the prolific Emmy winning writer, director and producer Danny Strong.

Strong, whose recent work includes Dopesick, Empire and Recount, is currently working on a classic Hollywood-era film for director Martin Scorsese starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. Strong wrote the script on spec which was quickly taken off the market by Lbi. Strong is also currently co-writing Ultra with Tony Kushner for Steven Spielberg, based on the Rachel Maddow podcast, Rachel Maddow Presents: Ultra.

Strong’s resume includes pop culture successes like the Fox drama series Empire, which he co-created, served as exec producer and director of several episodes, but he is one of Hollywood’s stronger writers in hot button and political topics. He was the creator and showrunner of the Hulu series Dopesick, which starred Michael Keaton and focused on the Opioid scourge and the role of the Sackler family’s Purdue Pharma in spreading it.

Even though Leonardo DiCaprio has delivered banger after banger throughout his tenure in Hollywood’s entertainment industry as an actor, not many come as close to perfection at its peak as The Wolf of Wall Street. To say the least, that epic biographical black comedy crime film not only exceeded expectations but also turned out to be beyond immersive and intriguing.

Besides becoming a major commercial success with its $407 million gross on a $100 million budget (via Box Office Mojo) – becoming Martin Scorsese’s highest-grossing film, the R-rated (and initially deemed controversial) masterpiece also earned rave reviews from fans and critics worldwide, going on to be nominated for 5 stunning Oscars, among other major accolades.

Emmy winner Holland Taylor has boarded the cast of the Apple TV+ comedy that was announced nearly two years ago and will reunite True Detective Season 1 stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

The as-yet-untitled, 10-episode, half-hour comedy series stars Harrelson and McConaughey in a “heartfelt odd couple love story” revolving around the actors’ strange and beautiful bond.

Emmy winner Holland Taylor is set as a series regular opposite Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in their untitled brothers comedy series for Apple TV+.

The 10-episode half-hour comedy reunites Harrelson and McConaughey, who play heightened versions of themselves in a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around their strange and beautiful sibling-like bond. Matthew and Woody’s close friendship is tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas.

Taylor will play Matthew’s mother Ma Mac.

David West Read (The Big Door Prize) serves as showrunner on the untitled comedy from Skydance Television, which he executive produces with McConaughey and Harrelson, alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television and Bill Bost and Jeremy Plager.

Taylor is coming off her ninth career Emmy nomination last year for Apple TV+’s The Morning Show; she won in 1999 for The Practice.

Exclusive: Corey Stoll (Billions) has come aboard for a role in the live-action Matchbox film from Apple Original Films, starring John Cena, Deadline has learned.

All character details remain under wraps, as does the film’s plot. Inspired by Mattel’s die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name, the project hails from Skydance and Mattel Films. Stoll is part of an expanding cast that also includes Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Arturo Castro and Danai Gurira.

Sam Hargrave (Extraction franchise) is directing Matchbox from a script by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan) and Jonathan Tropper (upcoming Your Friends and Neighbors). Producers include Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, and Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films, along with Jules Daly.

Unable to move forward, the death reveals cracks in her picture-perfect life, including a strained marriage, a complicated relationship with her daughter and her growing pursuit of validation from her followers.

To find herself again, Hollis hosts a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life: her childhood, her twenties, thirties, and one surprise fifth star. Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, they will mature in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.

It has provided one of the most assured and heartfelt films not only of this festival, but also one of the most assured and heartfelt films I have seen in a very long time.

Victor, who has appeared on shows like Billions, as well as being a stand-up comic, proves that in her first attempt to write a movie (and eventually come to believe she could also direct it with herself in the lead role) she has a true talent as a storyteller.

Long-time CBS viewers may immediately recognize Kanakaredes, but some NCIS fans might not remember where she is from.

Peacock has ordered a series adaptation of the Elin Hilderbrand novel “The Five-Star Weekend” with Jennifer Garner attached to star, Variety has learned.

The project was first reported to be in development at Peacock in April 2024 as part Sue Naegle and Ali Krug’s overall deal with UCP under their Dinner Party Productions banner.

After “Blknws: Terms & Conditions” was pulled from this year’s Sundance Film Festival lineup, at the behest of its financiers at Participant Media, the independent movie has a new backer — and will light up snowy Park City with its world premiere after all.

James Shani’s Rich Spirit and Bn Media have acquired “Blknws,” buying Participant Media out of all rights in the process, with hopes of selling the film to a new distributor. Shani’s company is best known for rescuing “The Apprentice,” the controversial Donald Trump biopic, from Kinematics, which is backed by the billionaire former owner of the Washington Commanders, Dan Snyder.

Participant, the now-defunct social impact studio, did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Though “Sex Lives of College Girls” fans know Gracie Lawrence as Kacey, a theater nerd and the new fourth roommate in Season 3, things could have been much different.

“She was a finalist to play Kimberly in Season 1,” co-creator and executive producer Justin Noble says, adding that Lawrence was in the final three under consideration for the role, which eventually went to Pauline Chalamet. But two seasons later, as the minds behind “Sex Lives of College Girls” conceptualized Kacey for the small screen, Lawrence’s audition once again stood out.

“She’s so funny and charming,” Noble says, comparing Lawrence’s take on Kacey to a “cute little Reese Witherspoon character” who rounds out the rest of the cast.

The backer says the movie’s director made a secret new cut of the film, one used to enter global film festivals and court critics without its owner’s knowledge.

“Blknws: Terms & Conditions,” an official selection in Sundance’s Next section, is directed by Kahlil Joseph (a contributor to Beyonce’s visual album “Lemonade”). The trailer for Good Cop/Bad Cop previews Leighton Meester's return to The CW in a police show that features a cameo from Adam Brody. Full of snappy dialogue, stylish scenery, and captivating stories, "Suits" more than passes the bar when it comes to contemporary, mass appeal, prestige television. “Dexter: Original Sin” brings fans back to the serial killer they all know and (perhaps worth examining) love, but he’s wearing a different face this time around.

No, not literally. Dexter Morgan isn’t that kind of psychopath. The Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin features a slate of new actors playing familiar characters from the original series. Developed by New Blood creator Clyde Phillips, the prequel series chronicles a post-college Dexter as he embraces his "dark passenger" through the guidance and teachings of his adopted father, Harry. Dexter implements Harry's code to satisfy his violent urges while making sure never to get caught. The original Dexter featured a variety of flashbacks of Dexter's upbringing with Harry and the formation of the code, which the prequel expands on.

Premiering next month at Sundance is A24’s latest horror movie, Opus. That brings with it a first-look image from the film, introducing Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) as journalist Ariel and new story details.

Opus marks the feature debut of writer-director Mark Anthony Green, who began writing for GQ when he was 19 before joining the publication full-time as a writer and editor.

The fest describes the film as “flashy pop horror.”

As for the plot, “A young writer is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star who mysteriously disappeared 30 years ago. Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan.”

Edebiri will play the “meek yet hungry journalist Ariel — her unique charm radiating alongside a distinct final-girl prescience. John Malkovich is effervescent and hypnotic as Moretti, a deified global phenomenon making a dramatically malevolent reintroduction.

Showtime Anytime was an app for the Showtime TV network that has since been shut down, but its content library is still easily accessible. On October 27, 2010, the then-unmerged Showtime TV network announced its very own app and website, Showtime Anytime, which featured around 400 hours of Showtime streaming content to Showtime TV subscribers (via TheFutonCritic). With Showtime's large library of original programs, having access to the service's shows wherever a customer went, on a television or smart device, was invaluable.

Subscribers would either go to ShowtimeAnytime.com or use their TV operator's "TV Everywhere" portal (a service that has been phased out by most broadcasters). On October 3, 2011, Showtime offered the Showtime Anytime app for smartphone users to download (via Engadget). Along with original programming, Showtime Anytime also included feature films, comedy specials, documentaries, and sports programming. However, Showtime Anytime is no longer available to download and the ShowtimeAnytime.com leads to a dead end.

Paramount Global has signed a multi-year volume deal with Qatar-based powerhouse beIN Media Group, which will boost the content offering of beIN’s Tod premium streaming platform that is available across the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey.

BeIN is a co-owner of U.S. indie studio Miramax. Its Tod streaming platform currently commands a 4% share of the Mena streaming market, thanks to its mix of premium sports and scripted content.

Under the deal – which expands their existing close rapport – beIN will be getting exclusive pay TV and streaming rights to a slew of content from Paramount + With Showtime, CBS Studios, Republic Pictures and Paramount Pictures. The Tod streamer’s exclusive offer in the region now includes hit shows including “Yellowstone,” “1883,” “1923,” “Billions,” “Colin From Accounts,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Ray Donovan” and feature films such as the “Transformers” and “Mission: Impossible” franchises.

Financial terms of the new deal...

A spate of deals out of MIPCOM Cannes this week indicates there is still life in the global TV market.

Paramount Global Content Distribution inked a multi-year volume deal with beIN Media Group, giving the Qatari-owned group exclusive rights to Paramount’s content library, including acclaimed series like Yellowstone, Billions, new offerings such as NCIS: Tony & Ziva and feature films including Bob Marley: One Love and the Transformers and Mission: Impossible franchises, across the Middle East and North Africa for beIN’s premium Pay TV channels and Tod streaming platform. The deal will see the shows carried in English subtitled in Arabic. Paramount has similar agreements in place with the likes of Streamz in Belgium, MultiChoice in Africa, and JioCinema in India.
