Director Chris Quick twice rejected the possibility of doing a prequel/sequel to The Greyness of Autumn (2012) before finally being convinced in December 2014.
Paul Michael Egan was originally on board as Director of Photography of the film following his work on the previous film. However he later had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts. On 26 June 2016, it was announced that Steve Johnson would take over as DOP on the film.
Quick Off The Mark Productions was originally intended to make the film. However, after the trailer was shot, the company announced it would be disbanding. The film was then handed over to Suited Caribou Media & Pentagram Productions.
The plane set used for the trailer was filmed at the City of Glasgow College.
