An out of shape character has thrown himself off a building to end his life; his joyless life is complete with pointless activity, self- pity, and humiliations. He is also a pigeon.
The idea here is a very clever one because it allows for a visual humor of mashing up pigeon reality with human life, while also combining the two characters – of a pigeon and a depressed middle- aged man. This is much funnier than it sounds, allowing for plenty of good jokes, while the animation gives our character a flabby desperation, and a grimy world, which fits the narration of his character. This voice work is very well done too – very dry and tired but with humor, and it adds to the sense of morbidity while keeping it enjoyable. We don't mock the pigeon, but we also don't like him for who he is – and the film gives him no self-awareness at all while allowing the viewer to see plenty.
The result is surprisingly effective; a clever idea, really well executed in a punchy 4-minute runtime.
