Two years have gone by since we learned that Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) had signed on to star in Piper, a new horror film from director Anthony Waller. More than a year has passed since the film had its world premiere at FrightFest… but now it’s ready for a wider release. Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has picked up Piper distribution rights and will be making it available to rent/own on all North American digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as on DVD, as of November 12th.
Back in 1995, director Waller made an impressive breakthrough with the thriller Mute Witness… then quickly squandered the good will he had earned with that movie by following it up with An American Werewolf in Paris. Waller has made a couple movies since the Paris debacle...

Are you shocked to learn the author of /Film's three Halloween Horror Nights articles this year is a haunted attraction addict? Invite me to your Halloween mazes, hayrides, docked ocean liners, and Shaqtoberfests. I crave haunt season entertainment. Even better, I crave "Haunt Season Horror" movies. Is that trademarked? Can I coin that terminology?
Haunt Season Horror titles must take place in a Horror Nights-like maze or immersive experience, turning seasonal amusements into slaughterhouse backdrops. Marquee examples would be "Hell Fest," your corporate-branded Six Flags Fright Fest take, or "The Houses October Built," which ventures into the less moderated realm of do-it-yourself haunts. These films prey upon the rational fears of patrons who attend these pop-up "Scarehouses," stripping away the safety of regulated horror experiences. What happens when a killer infiltrates a place where commercial terror is purchased at a premium? It's the ultimate Halloween treat.

Nearly a year has gone by since we learned that Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) had signed on to star in Piper, a new horror film from director Anthony Waller. Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the movie is set to have its world premiere at FrightFest this Sunday, August 27th – and ahead of the premiere, a trailer for Piper has arrived online! You can check it out in the embed above.
Back in 1995, director Waller made an impressive breakthrough with the thriller Mute Witness… then quickly squandered the good will he had earned with that movie by following it up with An American Werewolf in Paris. Waller has made a couple movies since the Paris debacle – the 2000 Bill Pullman thriller The Guilty, the 2009 sci-fi horror film 9 Miles Down – and here’s hoping that Piper will earn him some positive attention again.

Happy #RobertEnglundDay!
About one third of the 150+ acting credits accumulated over the course of Robert Englund’s 50-year career fall under the horror genre. Screambox is streaming five of them, along with the all-new documentary, Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story.
Here are six Robert Englund movies you can watch on Screambox now…
Galaxy of Terror
Before moving to Elm Street, Englund went to space for 1981’s Galaxy of Terror, the first of two back-to-back Alien knock-offs produced by Roger Corman. The film follows a ragtag spaceship crew on a rescue mission to a barren planet, where they encounter a deadly creature. In a slight twist on Ridley Scott’s sci-fi/horror classic, Galaxy of Terror uses its victims’ own fears against them — which, incidentally, is similar to Freddy’s modus operandi.

No horror fan needs to be introduced to the likes of Robert Englund, a name which in the collective imagery has become synonymous with so many different and varied aspects of the genre that he has left a deep and undeniable mark on. Needless to say, the thread holding together Englund’s celluloid persona is streaked with red and dark green, but the Californian actor could also resonate with many for the work he did with Tobe Hooper; his participation in ’90s items such as Urban Legend (1998), Strangeland (1998), and Wishmaster (1997); his previous work, during a time in which Freddy was still taking shape in the mind of Wes Craven, including Bruce D. Clark’s Galaxy of Terror (1981); or his recurring role as “Willie” in the TV series V (1983–1985).
Some might have discovered him through his more recent campy and grindhouse-inspired flicks like 2001 Maniacs (2005), Zombie Strippers (2008), or The Funhouse Massacre (2015). What...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by director Andy Palmer. Director: Andy Palmer. Writer: Alex Carl. Cast: Chad Michael Murray, Danielle Harris, Courtney Gains and Michael Eric Reid. Camp Cold Brook is an indie title from director Andy Palmer (The Funhouse Massacre) and new screenwriter Alex Carl; famous horror director Joe Dante (Gremlins) also co-produced this feature. More of a supernatural thriller than a horror film, Camp Cold Brook focuses on bringing the tension through the periphery. A witch is constantly hovering just off of screen, in search of vengeance. Starring Scream Queen Danielle Harris (Halloween 4), Chad Michael Murray (House of Wax) and Courtney Gains, this title utilizes a great setting, to tell a tale of remembrance. A bit stale in the first act, events pick-up in the middle and in the end as cursed characters emerge from the gloomy water. Camp Cold Brook is a decent thriller,...

You can always assume a horror movie’s quality based on how many cardinal genre sins are broken before the credits roll. Tom Nagel’s ClownTown has no trouble racking up the offenses in this particular case, especially because a good eight minutes pass before any title flashes. In that time, a lonely babysitter ignores obvious warning signs, gets naked on camera for no added reason (only two minutes in) and dies a generic, horrid death – three strikes in record time. Sadly, it never gets much better from there, as a town is seemingly taken over by psychotic clowns who rule by Marshall law – because why the hell not? The Funhouse Massacre is an indie horror feature from director Andy Palmer (Badlands of Kain). Written by Ben Begley and Renee Dorian, this title blends a lot of blood with some comedy, on Halloween night. Serial killers haunt an amusement park. And, a family reunion, created in Hell, offers a decent climax. Meanwhile, a theme involving impersonation is appropriate for the film's Halloween setting, while The Funhouse Massacre manages to create an entertaining horror world. In the story, actor Robert Englund appears as a blood-thirsty warden. He allows a journalist to tour his psychiatric hospital. The hospital pens several serial killers in its walls. The Funhouse Massacre presents itself as just another indiscriminate indie-horror flick, but as someone who’s been fooled by many similarly crafted duds, I can assure you that this roadside slaughterhouse is a much more enjoyable beast. Writer Ben Begley, who also plays a bumbling deputy, is not only able to craft a horror flick that’s loads of hellish fun, but this colorful massacre remain consistently funny throughout – not an easy task for scary comedies these days. While Begley’s tongue-in-cheek antics become a bit overplayed in a few instances, it fares far better than most jovial copycats of the same ilk, and holds its own against modern gore-chucklers with much bigger budgets. In the vein of a much more over-the-top The Houses October Built, The Funhouse Massacre is one of 2015’s hidden horror gems despite a smaller-format rollout, loaded with guts and bursting with psycho-carnie ferocity.
