Harry Houdini was a famous magician and escape artist from the early 1900s, known for his daring stunts like escaping from locked handcuffs, sealed containers, and even underwater traps. Born in 1874 in Hungary, he moved to the U.S. as a child and became a global sensation for his skill, showmanship, and charisma.
Beyond magic, he was also a skeptic who exposed fake spiritualists and a pioneer in aviation and filmmaking. His story was inspiring enough that the famous magician will apparently appear on the big screen in a spy thriller titled ‘Becoming Houdini’
Scott Sanders and Danny Strong will produce the movie. The film will follow the story of young Erik Weisz (Houdini’s real name) as he rises to fame. The script will be written by Michael Finch and Alex Litvak, known for ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ and ‘The Three Musketeers’.

As it turns out, executive producer David Shore knows how to make exactly one kind of show. Sure, there’s the odd Sneaky Pete or miniseries like Houdini And Doyle, but really, he’s got one true skill: Stories about brilliant but socially isolated doctors and the people who orbit them. First, it was House; now, it’s …

AMC is in the process of developing a really cool new series called The Terror, and they've just cast Mad Men's Jared Harris in the lead role.
The series will be an adaptation of a novel by Dan Simmons, the story of which is set in 1847. It follows the real life story of a Naval expedition searching for the Northwest Passage and in the process disappears. The series will take a fictional spin on the events that took place as the crews are attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships.
Harris will play a character named Francis Crozier, "Captain of the Hms Terror and second in command of the expedition. He is a brilliant sailor and captain, but an Irishman who has reached his glass ceiling in the British Royal Navy and has become disillusioned with its pomp and politics."

Author Dan Simmons knows how to spark scares and intrigue with his writing. His 1991 novel Summer of Night is essential reading for those who love a good coming-of-age horror tale, and his historical fiction novel The Terror offers an eerie experience of its own. AMC will bring the latter to the screen with their upcoming anthology series, which has just cast Jared Harris in the lead role of Captain Francis Crozier:

Unable to pull a second season out of its hat, the Houdini and Doyle TV show has been cancelled after its first and only season on Fox. The mystery drama series stars Michael Weston as Harry Houdini, Stephen Mangan as Arthur Conan Doyle, and Rebecca Liddiard as Constable Adelaide Stratton. The cast also includes Tim McInnerny, Adam Nagaitis, and Diana Quick. Fox confirmed the Houdini & Doyle cancellation to Deadline, which cites poor ratings as the reason. In the series, fictionalized versions of real life figures -- magician and skeptic Houdini and Sherlock Holmes author and paranormal enthusiast Doyle -- investigate unsolved crimes of a seemingly supernatural nature. The show was created by David Hoselton and David N. Titcher. The writing staff also includes: Carl Binder, Melissa R. Byer, Treena...

Even Harry Houdini can't save this one.
Fox canceled Houdini & Doyle after airing only one season of the interesting and unusual drama.
Houdini & Doyle starred Michael Weston and Stephen Mangan as Harry Houdini and Arthur Conan Doyle, respectively.
Yes, they were That Houdini & Doyle, the magician and the writer.
The story was that at the turn of the 20th Century, there were a lot of crazy cases turning up with a supernatural bent, and these two learned fellows were chosen to help the New Scotland Yard to solve them.
Unfortunately, the series was reviewed poorly out of the gate and eyes were subsequently averted.
There's always good and bad news about critics being given a chance to see a series ahead of time for review.
There are several ways things can go down as a result.
If only a pilot is released, it's a toss up. A pilot can sometimes...

Death, betrayal and insanity all played their part on Houdini & Doyle Season 1 Episode 10, but so did friendship, bravery and loyalty.
With 50 people shockingly dead, this season finale certainly had its twists and turns, and the mystery of it reminded me of some of my favorite stories from The X-Files, when the show didn’t have to be horrifyingly dark to grab our attention.
Watch Houdini & Doyle Season 1 Episode 10 Online
But Houdini & Doyle has a flavor all its own, from the landscape to the costumes to the characters. It’s definitely the characters I’ve grown to love over the course of the season, with my favorite being Harry Houdini.
Houdini reminds me a lot of one of my favorite all-time TV characters, Patrick Jane from The Mentalist.
They both used their keen sense of observation and inherent skepticism and intelligence to debunk supernatural theories and the people who perpetrate them.

If nothing else, Houdini and Doyle is a show put together by people who love watching television… and know where, and how, to borrow from the unusual things that seem to be working.
The danger involved here is that it will end up feeling too cobbled together. The obvious popularity of Sherlock, and other period mysteries doesn’t necessarily mix well with sci-fi/paranormal, even if such things are also gaining traction in the ratings. This one even throws in some of the goofy fun of Murdoch Mysteries, which is a great show, but sounds a little screwy on paper.
The long and short of it is that Houdini and Doyle has too many things going on to have much chance of success, and it has to also deal with the idea of keeping some semblance of the reality of two historical figures… plus ghosts.
The show avoids the pitfalls...

Harry Houdini and Arthur Conan Doyle are both legends in their own right. Houdini was a master magician and escape artist. Doyle was the creator of Sherlock Holmes and author of those and other books. A new Fox series makes Houdini and Doyle crime solvers in the early 1900s.
Michael Weston plays Houdini. After a Television Critics Association for Houdini & Doyle, Weston stuck around to speak more with a group of reporters and we were there to ask him questions about magic tricks and Houdini history. "Houdini & Doyle" airs Mondays at 9Pm on Fox.

Like that ad campaign from the early ’80s where diners at fine restaurants had their coffee replaced with Folgers crystals, Fox’s Houdini & Doyle attempts to satisfy viewers who gravitate to high-minded, British crime stories with a period flair (and/or have an unrequited craving for PBS’ all-too-infrequent Sherlock).
