Reasonably so with a great deal of artistic licence. The 2 men were friends, Conan Doyle despite being the famous proponent of rational deduction firmly believed in the paranormal whilst Houdini despite being the world's most popular magician firmly didn't. Conan Doyle did undertake private investigations of mysterious cases and Houdini did spend his free time exposing fakes who claimed to have supernatural powers (and was rumoured to act as an intelligence source for the US government). However they did not meet until the 1920s, not the 1900s as depicted in the series by which time Houdini's beloved mother had already died. Britain did not also have policewomen until after the end of the Great War (1914-1918).
