War of the Worlds: Extinction is a followup to The Asylum’s 2021 film War of the Worlds: Annihilation, but in the opening montage, however, the film flips the script entirely, revealing that rather than Earth being invaded it was us doing the invading, attacking and trying to colonize the planet Emios after we made Earth uninhabitable.

Almost immediately after that montage, we see the one returning character, General Skuller leading his troops against the Earth forces, apparently in defiance of orders to stand down and welcome what are referred to as refugees from Earth. Any chance of that happening vanishes when he sees his daughter vaporized by an enemy craft while trying to lead some of those refugees to safety.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot cast is coming together in a promising way. We just learned that Golden Globe Award nominee Billy Campbell has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. I wonder who he could be playing in the slasher.

Campbell joins a growing list of actors who have already been announced to be in the cast, such as Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.

Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced recently to have officially joined the cast, reprising his role of Ray Bronson from the original film and its 1998 sequel. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood are also in talks to return in their roles as Julie James and Karla Wilson.

Additionally, Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders is currently in discussions about joining the cast of the upcoming Sony movie. However, who she will be portraying in the film is unknown.

Exclusive: Golden Globe winner Kim Cattrall has joined the cast of Hulu’s How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Father, in a major recurring role.

Cattrall will play the future version of Hilary Duff’s character Sophie, who is telling her son the story of how she met his father, much like Josh Radnor (and Bob Saget’s) Ted Mosby did in the original series.

Endeavor Content has invested an undisclosed amount in Nordic Drama Queens, the new Scandinavian production company launched by Josefine Tengblad, Sandra Harms and Line Winther Skyum Funch.

The Stockholm- and Copenhagen-based company launches this autumn with a focus on developing premium drama from established and emerging voices from the Nordic region and around the world.

The three founders have served in various capacities in the region’s entertainment sector.

Tengblad was formerly head of drama at TV4/CMore and previously served as an independent producer. Her credits include Blinded, Top Dog and Agatha Christie’s Hjerson.

Exclusive: Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent Group) is set to debut a third season of its female-led crime drama series Honour on its Viaplay streaming service in 2022. Filming is set to start this autumn.

One of the most viewed Viaplay Originals so far, the drama has already been sold in 60 territories worldwide with four remakes in development.

The Game Audio Network Guild announced the full list of its 19th annual G.A.N.G. Awards winners for 30 categories in music, sound design, dialogue, mixing and more.

As we get deeper into the summer, entertainment offerings are bound to start slimming – particularly in this pandemic era. Perhaps there’s no greater example of the oncoming drought than Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2020.

Though the new options may be few and far between on Amazon this month, at least they pack a bit of a punch. In the case of Hanna season 2, that punch is quite literal. Esme Creed-Miles returns as the titular precocious super soldier. You can check out our review here. Beyond that, there are two intriguing Amazon original movies. The first is the Rosamund Pike-starring Radioactive and that arrives on July 24. Then there is the Dave Bautista film My Spy on July 26.

With HBO Max now on the scene, Amazon Prime is sure to lose some of its library titles. That can already be seen in the relatively sparse offerings for July.

PBS Distribution and Walter Presents are set to bring Belgian crime drama “Professor T” to audiences across the U.S. “Professor T” will be the second international title distributed under the Walter’s Choice banner, the partnership between PBS Distribution, the home video arm of PBS, and streaming service Walter Presents, which brings non-English language drama to PBS’ regional network of broadcast stations.

The first season of “Professor T” is set to air on PBS broadcast stations across the U.S. from May 2. The 13-part series will also be available via members-only streaming service PBS Passport. The announcement follows the introduction of the new Walter’s Choice brand in February, which launched with Swedish crime thriller “Modus.”

PBS Distribution and streaming service Walter Presents have teamed up to bring Swedish crime thriller “Modus” to PBS stations across the U.S.

PBS Distribution, the home video arm of PBS, will roll out “Modus” regionally, starting with Los Angeles station Klcs on Saturday at 11 p.m. Pt. The show will continue to air in the same slot throughout its eight-week run. “Modus” is already available on the members-only streaming service PBS Passport and on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel via Amazon.

Sweden’s leading actresses – Sofia Helin (“The Bridge”), Alexandra Rapaport (“The Hunt”), Julia Dufvenius (“Molanders”) and Anja Lundqvist (“Modus”) – have joined forces to create and executive produce “Honour,” a contemporary thriller series following four daring lawyers fighting violence against women.

Sweden’s top local Svod service, Viaplay, has ordered the eight-part series, which Eccho Rights is representing in international markets. Stockholm-based company Bigster is producing the show, which is currently being shot and will be delivered next August.

Rapaport, Dufvenius and Lundqvist headline the series, along with Swedish TV host-actress Eva Röse, as four partners in a law firm called Heder (Swedish for “honor”) who have become famous for helping victims of sex crimes and speaking out against patriarchy.

Tobias Lindholm, director of 2016 Oscar nominee A War, is set to write and helm crime series The Investigation. Based on the probe into the murder of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, the drama is being developed by Miso Film, Denmark’s TV2 and TV4 and Sweden’s C More.

The six-part series centers on the Copenhagen Police and its Head of Homicide, Jens Møller’s investigation and follows the methodical, unusual and technical work that enabled them to solve Wall’s murder. The case has been in the headlines this year after entrepreneur Peter Madsen was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in April, following a widely publicized trial.

Written by Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries), Tell Me a Story — which was ordered straight to series in November — puts a dark twist on well-known fairy tales. Set in present-day New York, the serialized drama’s first season will weave together elements of The Three Little Pigs, Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood.

Cattrall will play Colleen, described as an unlikely and very nontraditional grandmother.

Part of my love of Nordic Noir is the dark style and tone of a lot of the shows. Modus is my latest for review, and is a beautifully dark tale pitting killer against psychologist. Almost pitch black in its style, the fact it reminded me of Hannibal in many ways is a very good sign…
