I admit that this movie has something typically European (or Spanish better said) and that might make it somehow more difficult for other audiences. In short I found the movie to be funny, with sometimes unexpected twists (sometimes expected, I will admit that) and starring beautiful young actors. The movie is filled in with beautiful images. I see that many critiques refer to the dialogues but in all honesty this is exactly what I found to be the strong point of the movie. The cast is very well chosen and doing a very good job as well, the actors fit their roles in a natural way and seem to enjoy themselves every single scene. I recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative to those American comedies with overrated actors, full of clichés and gross dialogues. The movie left us pleasantly surprised and some of the scenes still make us laugh a couple of days later.
The best way I can describe this film is that it entranced me, as the images kept coming back to haunt me for a long time after I left the cinema. It's not perfect (which film is?) but the imagery and underlying message of the romance in nature, as well as in human relationships, will - despite some occasional qualms about the dialogue - enchant you too.

I liked that this film was different from other romance movies I have seen where the characters are not only playing a game where they are not to know too much information about each other and no phone numbers etc. like in the past but the fact they are both trying to get over someone which made this different and rather fun to watch.
I did get personally distracted by the subtitles throughout and found that they were too fast at times and that I couldn't really watch the film properly as I was trying to keep up with them.
However this film was really cute and I ended up smiling a lot from it.

This film was an enjoyable experience, providing a detailed insight into two individuals as they come to terms with the demise of their relationships, and the beginning of their own. If you've seen romantic films already, the familiar tropes are present through this movie, with moments of passion and emotions given in at the anticipated moments, but the real charm of this film is in the two actors' abilities to confidently explore their characters' internal motivations, and have this played well with their counterpart. Its not the love film of the century, but its certainly one that will happily provide the distraction it was made for.

It's not Bunuel, it's not made to change the lives of generations, but it is a movie for us. We would love to be as creative and nice as them in our relationships. The script is like the first cup of champagne drank as teenagers, with an unexpected outcome every second. I liked it a lot, I liked the actors and the way it's been done. i really hope you'll enjoy it as well!

I'm an absolute fan of romantic comedies, from Bringing Up Baby to When Harry met Sally and many others; I've seen countless examples of it. One day, browsing the trusted streaming platform, I come across this flick. Immediately, it caught my attention.
It started off well, relatively interesting location and characters, decent cinematography, all good, until suddenly, the dialogue starts. I swear, at that moment I thought "this is not believable, no one talks like that, not even the most pretentious of the pretentious". Of course, dialogues in movies don't copy reality, they are inspired by it; if we took the dialogues of wonderful movies, such as "Casablanca" or "Goodfellas" and brought them to real life, they might not sound believable either, but they work incredibly well on screen.
Why doesn't this movie work? Well, the dialogue is lazy, in his eagerness to make us empathize with his characters, his screenwriter filled us with long and empty conversations, completely eliminating a possible subtext. As a result, we get histrionic performances... Let's just say it, the performances are horrible, precisely because they are not acting, they are reciting.
Anyway, I don't want to take away the value it has just because I hate it. Moreover, if you like writing, it's an excellent example of how not to do it, so, let's look at the bright side of it.
PS: I don't understand several tens here, it's quite suspicious.

Wonderfully fun movie. A bit treacly? Umh, sure - it's a romantic comedy. I suspect it will become a future guilty pleasure for me.
The dialogue is excellent; there were several times it had me laughing out loud - and I was watching it with subtitles. The banter between the two lead actors reminded me of "When Harry Met Sally" in pace and wit, but earthier.
The actors are beautiful - he carries off a hint of gray and she has a lovely Bohemian vibe - and they have nice chemistry on screen. Nobody is perfect in the movie, and the two exes aren't completely horrible, which makes it all the more approachable.

Is not that the acting was bad...but the writing was so terrible that no actor could have saved this! All the dialogues were the complete opposite of how two humans interact. I felt like I was listening to 2 people reading text messages for two hours...and to be fair I've read better text messages on my phone whilst "watching" this. Yes. It was THAT bad. Don't waste your time.

Lovable characters, smart script and nice cinematography ... yes, somehow ordinary script, but over all, a nice flick for a relaxing evening. I highly recommend this to the common north american viewer who thinks that life and chasing chicks is all done via drugs, alcohol and obnoxious behavior at both personal and family levels ... enjoy

Our lovers, at its core should be a light romantic comedy, that would aim to remind us of the wonders and excitement of newfound love. The problem comes with the way the characters interact, In a nutshell... nobody, and I mean Nobody talks like that. Every line is trying to be witty and cultured. Every 2 sentences the characters reference authors, painters and are more worried about showing their general culture and their art nuance that to actually communicate.
The acting is forced, but is not due to the actors, which in other media can and have delivered, but more due to the poor script and more than likely the fact than the director is also the writer.
As a summary, a great concept that was poorly executed and in hindsight, if you were to drink a shot every time a character casualty mentions a famous author, an awesome drinking game.

Sappy shlock in the manner of the worst pulp love dime novels. Cringy dialogues and characters that are very difficult to listen to, let alone love. Skip this one. Spain has much better movies to offer.

Being a cinephile and romance film lover I stumbled upon a reviewer here that said it was the best they has seen in years.
As I watched this and even with subtitles there was something very special going on! A smart funny introspective messy real human story with great characters and interesting dialog and just enough imperfection to breathe life into the whole affair. The leads have a great banter and intellectual chemistry that lets everything else evolve naturally.
Even Cristobal as the wacky best friend is not out of place here and the other villains' in the story are not so intractable that you dont have at least some sympathy.
The legend of Our Lover will grow and will rank right up with the greats over time. I already know I will visit Irene and Carlos often and be glad to be caught up in the magic each time.

Towards the middle of this movie I realized how much I liked it, though I was enjoying it from the start. The dialogue can be a bit poetic, making it harder for me, a non Spanish speaker, to understand, so I did have to rewind a few seconds here and there to read again. It gets better as it goes.
I recommend it, but not sure it's for everybody.

Based on other reviews I thought this was a romantic comedy with a fresh approach. Well, it's not. It intends to be an intelligent, original movie (expectation was a kind of Woody Allen comedy), but turns out to be an unfunny, really boring movie about a predictable romantic relationship. The screenplay is bad, most dialogues are bad, the acting is not good either. The humor consists of a few bad jokes (some involving farts and vomit, that are definitely not my kind of humor, other involving pancreas cancer - anyone who has had a friend or relative with this disease will agree that there is nothing funny about it). I love comedies but I could not laugh not even once. So unless you want to spend one hour and a half watching a stupid, boring "romcom", skip this one.

Excellent scrip, the use of the language is great, the phrases used to describe emotions and thoughts are deep, cynical, funny, honest and ingenious. It a delight to see, great landscapes. Very well developed story, we can identify ourselves with the characters. Worth to see it many times, congratulations for this masterpiece!

The film looks visually amazing and goes through beautiful places but honestly that's the best part about it. It doesn't take much to realize it was written by a man. Every single dialogue consists of a man explaining something simple to a woman. It gets really repetitive.

Romantic comedy at the extreme of credibility. Eduardo Noriegas performance is fun to watch.
