First film directed by Xavier Dolan with only French actors in the cast. His previous films were all starred by Canadian actors. This film, however, was shot entirely in Canada.
Was booed by critics at its press screening at the Cannes Film Festival, but was awarded with the festival's Grand Prix (Cannes' second most important award) and with the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. It also received a 7-minute standing ovation at the end of its screening with the cast and crew in attendance at the festival.
Filming took place over a 20-day period. The actors were only together on set for six days.

The film was a box office hit in France, grossing $7,7 million with over 1 million admissions. It also debuted at number one in its opening weekend.
