Prime Video’s November programming will dip its toe into Christmas and other holiday offerings such as The Holiday (2006) starring Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black. The streamer will also add some films with sequels arriving in theaters this month, like Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) and Ridley Scott’s 1992 film Gladiator.

In this week's installment of "What people choose to watch on streamers will never make sense," the aughts comedy "Norbit" is somehow one of the most-watched movies on Amazon's Prime Video. This exceedingly random news comes courtesy of viewership data site FlixPatrol, which as of publication time has the widely panned Eddie Murphy vehicle hovering at number five on its list of the 10 most-watched Prime Video movies in North America. To be fair to "Norbit," subscribers seem to be having an odd week in general, with Adam Sandler's "The Longest Yard" also making the list and two Christmas films, "Almost Christmas" and "The Holiday," already entering Prime Video's upper echelons. Jennifer Hudson has a new holiday album out, and with the vocals she slayed (or should we say, sleigh‘ed) on it, she sure deserves her title of “Princess of Christmas!”

In a new People interview published Monday, the talk show host celebrated her album The Gift of Love, but rest assured that she knows Mariah Carey will always be the Christmas queen.

Jennifer Hudson is kicking off the holiday season early!

On Friday (September 6), the 42-year-old Egot winner announced that she will be releasing her first-ever Christmas album titled The Gift of Love on October 18.

Jennifer‘s upcoming album will feature collaborations with her boyfriend Common along with The Joy, a South African quintet known for their blend of traditional Zulu music and modern a cappella.

Exclusive: DC Young Fly, best known as a cast member of MTV’s long-running improv series, Wild ‘n Out, has been added to the cast of New Line’s reimagining of the 1990 cult comedy House Party, produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter of The SpringHill Company.

Talbert and Lyn Sisson-Talbert have signing a first-look deal for their Golden Alchemy banner, to write, direct and produce movies for Netflix. It is the first overall deal for the prolific playwright and filmmaker, who partners in Golden Alchemy with his wife, a prolific producer and author on her own.

David E. Talbert began his career as a playwright and broke into directing on the studio level with the hit First Sunday. He followed with films that included Baggage Claim, Almost Christmas and El Camino Christmas, the latter of which he made for Netflix. He continued as a prolific playwright who has written and produced 14 national tours and wrote the novels Baggage Claim, Love on the Dotted Line, and Love Don’t Live Here No More: Book One of Doggy Tales, which he wrote with Snoop Dogg.

London Hughes is a “Hot Mess” — at least on screen — as the British comedian is set to star in a new comedy under the same title for Universal Pictures, produced by Will Packer Productions.

“Hot Mess” will be written by Noushin Jahanian, based on an idea from Jahanian and Hughes. Will Packer and James Lopez will produce through their Will Packer Productions banner, with Johanna Byer serving as executive producer. Universal’s Senior Executive VP of Production Erik Baiers will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

On the heels of his charming ensemble comedy “Almost Christmas,” writer-director David E. Netflix has released the full trailer for its Christmas movie, “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.” The film stars Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, with original songs by producer and singer John Legend has written original songs for the film.

“Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” is a musical adventure set in the gloriously vibrant town of Cobbleton. The film follows toymaker and inventor Jeronicus Jangle (voiced by Whitaker) who spends his days creating fanciful inventions. Keegan-Michael Key plays his trusted apprentice who steals his most prized creation. Newcomer Madalen Mills plays Jangle’s grandaughter, who discovers a long-forgotten invention and awakens the magic within for a holiday adventure.

Phylicia Rashad provides the voiceover as grandmother in the teaser as audiences get their first look into Jangle’s magical world and inventions.

The movie is written by J. Oyer Tomas, former HBO executive producer, and set during the Congressional impeachment hearings to remove President Richard Nixon from office. Nixon resigned in 1974.

Mo’Nique will portray a mother, struggling with anger management issues, who is forced to steal her suddenly deceased husband’s trucking haul to provide for her daughter. On their cross-country adventure she discovers the truth behind her husband’s death and vents her rage upon his racist killers.

“I knew this was unique from the jump, because of the countless scripts we’ve read together, the only other time my husband said ‘this is special’ was for a little movie named ‘Precious,’” Mo’Nique said.

“Doctor Sleep,” the horror sequel to “The Shining” from Warner Bros. starring Ewan McGregor, made $1.5 million at the box office in Thursday night previews.

It’s another busy weekend at the box office, with four movies opening in wide release. Warner Bros. “Doctor Sleep” is projected to be the top opener however when it opens against Paramount’s family film “Playing With Fire,” Lionsgate’s World War II epic “Midway” and Universal’s holiday themed rom-com “Last Christmas.”

“Doctor Sleep” is projected to earn $35 million, but there’s a chance with the increased enthusiasm for adaptations of Stephen King’s stories, namely “It Chapter Two” from earlier this year, that the film could over perform. For a comparison, Paramount released the adaptation of King’s “Pet Sematary” this April. It made $2.3 million on Thursday night before opening to $24.5 million on a $21 million budget.

Whitaker will play Jeronicus Jangle, a once-great inventor and toy maker who has lost his belief in himself and his inventions, but stumbles upon a second chance and a magical invention, when his granddaughter comes to town for the holidays. If he can get the thing to work in time for the holidays, it will change their lives forever.

The Oscar-winning actor is coming off Black Panther, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Arrival. While “Avengers: Infinity War” left box office beancounters’ jaws on the floor with its huge Chinese launch last weekend, Gabrielle Union was quietly making her first steps on her path to becoming the next big box office star with her latest film, “Breaking In.”

Made on a thrifty $6 million budget, “Breaking In” stars Union as a mother forced to break out the shotguns after thieves invade her late father’s mansion and hold her children hostage in an attempt to access the house’s vault.

Though critics panned it, the film made $17.5 million from 2,537 screens this past weekend. By comparison, this past weekend’s other new release, Melissa McCarthy’s “Life of the Party,” needed over 1,100 more screens to open to $17.8 million, giving “Breaking In” the higher per screen average at just under $7,000 per screen.
