The Star Wars film franchise is exploring new frontiers with its upcoming film to be directed by Shawn Levy. The movie, tentatively titled Star Wars: Starfighter, has revealed much of its cast already and is set to release sometime in 2027.

Exact details of the film’s plot and characters are as of yet unknown, aside from the fact that it is set in the canon of Disney’s sequel trilogy of films, after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Per reporting from Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the cast members confirmed for the film so far include Ryan Gosling in the lead role, and Matt Smith and Mia Goth being cast as villains.

While on the red carpet for Netflix's Tudum 2025 event, Et caught up with actress Mia Goth to discuss her role as Elizabeth Lavenza in Guillermo del Toro's highly anticipated film adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

In the film, Goth's character, Elizabeth Lavenza, is the fiancée of Victor Frankenstein, played by Oscar Isaac.

When asked if audiences would find del Toro's take on the timeless story surprising or familiar, Goth confidently stated, "I think both." She elaborated, "I think people are going to love how epic it is, and the scale of it, it's such a feast. But I think they will also be incredibly moved by it and maybe surprised by how much heart went into this. It's a lifelong project for Guillermo."

Goth also shared her awe-struck reaction to seeing Jacob Elordi's portrayal of the iconic Monster in costume for the first time.

“The Odyssey” follows the Greek hero Odysseus on his world-spanning journey home after the Trojan War. The story was originally written by the ancient Greek poet Homer over 2,000 years ago and is one of the oldest stories still enjoyed by contemporary readers.

Given how radically the horror genre has changed in the 21st century, it's surprising that there hasnt been a modern scream queen who has given classic stars like Jamie Lee Curtis, Neve Campbell, or Heather Langenkamp a run for their money. The genre may be heading in a different direction, but Mia Goth has certainly become an icon within some of the wildest projects in recent history. Between the trippy space opera High Life, the disturbing psychological thriller A Cure For Wellness, the absurdist satire Infinity Pool, and her prominent role in Ti Wests X and Pearl, Goth has mastered all of horrors most idiosyncratic subgenres. Goths association with spooky material makes it all the more surprising that she had a prominent role in the Jane Austen adaptation Emma.

A lot has changed for Mia Goth since the release of X in March 2022. Shes seen her star skyrocket. After a steady stream of impressive supporting credits in films like The Survivalist, A Cure for Wellness, Suspiria, and more, X finally got Goth her very first lead role in a feature film. Now, thanks to the X franchise, shes headlined three X, Pearl and MaXXXine and the industrys taken notice. Not only does she have two highly anticipated new projects on the way in Guillermo del Toros Frankenstein and the long-awaited Blade film with Mahershala Ali, but shes essentially living Maxine Minxs dream. Much has been made about how filmmaker Ti West has reinvented and refreshed the slasher genre by paying homage to the classics in his A24 trilogy X, Pearl and the upcoming MaXXXine. His leading lady, Mia Goth, agrees with the praise and adds that the back-to-back-to-back gigs have also reshaped something else — her career.

“The work has given me a whole new level of confidence that I hadn’t had before,” the 30-year-old actress told The Hollywood Reporter while standing outside the Tcl Chinese Theatre minutes before the June 24 world premiere. “It changed me forever.”

Specifically, Goth points to playing the title character Pearl in the technicolor gore-fest that served as the prequel to 2022’s X and was released the same year. X found Goth playing Maxine, a young porn actress who in 1979 accompanies pals from the adult film industry to a remote Texas farmhouse, where an elderly couple is revealed to be savage hosts.

Netflix’s popularity can be attributed to many different movies and shows, but, in my opinion, their horror anthology series Black Mirror was integral to their overnight success because I can remember obsessing over its brutal satire like it was yesterday. Then, the streaming platform’s Indian branch made Lust Stories, and the idea of provocative storytelling featuring Bollywood stars felt promising. Love, Death, and Robots became everyone’s favorite almost instantly, with its vivid style and precise storytelling.
