Tanki gryazi ne boyatsya

Apparently, this movie was born as a miniseries (4 episodes, 2008) and its length suggests that in the version offered for streaming the four episodes have been just put together. A portrait of Dmitry Medvedev, who was president of the Russian Federation from 2008 to 2012 is seen, which shows the time frame depicted in the movie is also 2008.

The scenario is a tank school somewhere in Russia and the main character is Sanya Kruglov, whose dream is studying drama. His grandfather, a retired tankman and much decorated hero of WWII has persuaded Sanya to do his compulsory military service at the tank school. There Sanya finds true friends and treacherous foes such as the son of a local petty oligarch, and a corrupt officer. Romantic interest is provided bt Masha and Tanya, two handsome local girls that belong to a local biker club.

This of course brings to mind numerous Hollywood comedies about soldiers in peacetime and there is not much originality here. However, the charisma of the actors, witty dialogue and dynamic direction make the movie enjoyable despite being overlong. Just entertainment, but worth watching.
